Insensitive simulates the quantum mechanical models that are used to describe the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiment. The vector model, density matrix and product operators of an ensemble of up to four spins-1/2 and two spin types are visualized. Each step from the first radiofrequency pulse to the acquisition of the spectrum can be manipulated. Features include selective pulses, weak and strong coupling, dipolar relaxation, gradients, cartesian and spherical product operator basis, phase correction, pulse sequence recording and a comprehensive tutorial.
To make full use of this app a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics as well as a textbook on NMR is recommended.
Check out the free Mac OS X version of Insensitive at http://www.chemie.uni-hamburg.de/nmr/insensitive, which includes the capability to acquire 2D spectra.
